This story started from the love of a couple which meets at the summit of a mountain. Both of them come to this small village that has a small mountain at the backdrop. Without knowing of each other presence, both were captive by the beauty of the mountain and started their climb to the summit from different side of the mountain.The guy arrives at the summit at around sunset and was captive by the sight of the sunset over the mountain. Just as he was thinking that this is the best sight that his eye will ever caught sight of, he saw a lady slowly appearing at the other side. The sun was setting behind the lady and it has given that extra pink to her pinkish cheek. This is even more beautiful that the sunset itself. He picked up his courage and approached the lady and they were chatting like old friend in no time. As all know, sunset is very short and thus they both decided to meet at the very same spot every fortnight.
Well we should be able to guess what happen next as like the first sentence stated, the love of a couple sprouted. One fine day, the guys waited from sunset to sunrise but the lady was not there. The guy does not give up hope and went around asking about this lady and found that she was sick. The guy decided to carry the lady up the mountain at every fortnight sunset till the lady past away. Till date, you might still see this man at the summit watching the beautiful sunset.
Thinking where this beautiful mountain is? It is in KLUANG, Johor state in Malaysia, a small beautiful town that has a small beautiful mountain call GUNUNG LAMBAK. The word Kluang is a Malay name for a type of fruit bat. Some believed that name was coined after two mountains that resemble the head and wing of a bat from a distance. Gunung Lambak is located just 5km from the town. At 510m above sea level, it is an easy climb for most visitors. You can go up via the north side and coming down by the south using the trails of footpaths and wooden bridges.
Here you can see the rainforest and waterfalls within the recreational park. It is a good place for you to relax after stress of exam, work life, bored with the city life or would like a short workout. When you walk into the forest you can hear the song from various varieties of bird, insert and if lucky enough, you might still see the fruit bat. When you climb along the mountain, you can feel the smile of the wind and warmth from the sun. At the same time, you can see the monkey jumping from tree to tree.
At the top of the mountain you will be able to see the whole town. The beauty of the town cannot be described by a few words. And the rest of the view is something that one has to experience itself to understand it.
There are also mutiple rest sheds and benches along the trail for treker to take a break. There are also camping sites for people that would like to return to the nature and also for those that prefer better comfortibilty and still near to the nature, their choice will surely be the chalet. There is also a pool facility at the foot of the mountain for the whole family or a group of friends to enjoy before or after the trip up to the summit. The cost is 3RM for kid and 5RM for adult.
Although Gunung Lambak is a small mountain and a good introduction to tropical jungle trekking but slightly good fitness will be a plus feature to make it a more enjoyable trek. The first half of the climb is rather easy as it has a manmade trail. The trail will change from manmade wooden track to the more diffcult one of natural trail, the big root of the rainforest.

What to expect :
The climate is tropically humid and some part of the trek is in such condition that can be physically draining. Everyone needs to be prepared for bad weather with basic waterproofing gear such as ponchos and rain-coats. Waterproofing for your backpack is a avdvicable or a must in the wet season and a trekking pole or walking stick would be useful. The paths can be very slippery even during dry weather. Sandals is not recommended and it is important to wear a pair of walking shoes to protect against potentially sharp rocks and tree roots. And lastly, be prepared for leeches during the wet season (Nov - Feb) ... your insect repellent may just be your saviour!
